Pilates was invented in the early twentieth century by German born, Joseph Pilates. His classic exercises he called "Contrology". Today commonly known just as "Pilates" the exercises are constantly evolving as our knowledge and understanding of anatomy and the human body evolves.
Unlike many other forms of exercising Pilates is designed to help improve the quality of movement, thus improving core strength, overall body strength without bulk, and creating a body that is balanced and well aligned.
The STOTT PILATES® method and repertoire are used at Bodywise Pilates because of it's immense respect by practitioners worldwide, largely due to the modern knowledge about the human body and it's scientific-base to develop the safest and most effective programming for each client guided under a qualified instructor.
Pilates has many amazing benefits:
Strengthening core muscles
Improving breathing, in turn releasing stress and a build up of tension
Creates longer, leaner muscles
Improves posture
Greater joint mobility
Relieves aches and pains
Rehabilitates the body through injury or surgery
Greater flexibility, balance and co-ordination
Boosts the immune system
Tones the entire body and assists with weight loss
Creates mind-body awareness
Improves self confidence
Joseph Pilates famously stated
"In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 you will see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a whole new body".
